What Are AI Assistants?
Landbot's AI Assistants are pre-built AI blocks you drop into your chatbot flow at any point. They handle open-ended questions using natural language, then hand back to the rule-based flow when done. There are three types:
- AI FAQ Assistant — answers questions from a knowledge base you upload (PDF, URL, or text).
- AI Lead Gen Assistant — collects lead information through a natural conversation.
- AI Appointment Assistant — books meetings by integrating with your calendar.
Understanding AI Chat Quotas
Every conversation that passes through an AI Assistant block uses one AI chat from your monthly quota. Standard rule-based conversations do not consume AI chats. Once your quota runs out:
- Extra AI chats are billed at €1.00 each automatically.
- You can pre-buy extra AI chats in your billing settings.
Step 1 – Add an AI Assistant Block
Open the builder
Go to your bot flow in the Landbot builder. Click the + icon to add a new block, then search for AI Assistant in the block library.
Choose the assistant type
Select FAQ, Lead Gen, or Appointment depending on what you need at this point in the flow.
Connect it in the flow
Draw an arrow from the previous block into the AI Assistant. The AI block has two output paths: Success (AI answered and conversation ended) and Escalate (AI couldn't help — route to human agent or backup flow).
Step 2 – Configure the FAQ Assistant
Upload your knowledge base
Click on the AI FAQ block and open its settings. Upload a PDF, paste a URL, or type text directly. Landbot indexes your content and uses it to answer visitor questions.
Set a fallback message
Define what the bot says if it cannot find a relevant answer. Something like: "I'm not sure — let me connect you with our team." Then route to a live-chat handoff or email capture block.
Test your FAQ bot
Use the Preview mode to ask real questions from your customers. Check the escalation path works correctly.
